Meet the founders

Georgia, Nina and Sophia Scott share a lifetime of travel experience, and have lived and worked all over the world. Georgia and Sophia have more than a decade of experience with their documentary film company GROUNDTRUTH Productions, working across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Nina has spent her career working on product development, design and sales within the artisan textiles sector, engaging with companies and industries worldwide.

The sisters’ work has put them in direct contact with a range of extreme environments – from drought in East Africa to conflict in the Middle East. These experiences sparked their drive to create a company that could effect positive, meaningful change.

GROUNDTRUTH grew from the sisters’ shared belief in the power of collaboration, and their drive to protect people and nurture the planet. They have worked for five years on the development of the GROUNDTRUTH concept, which evolved through their experiences on the road, in the field and in business.

Together, they saw the opportunity to design problem-solving travel goods that drive positive change: reducing plastic pollution and improving people’s lives. Georgia, Nina and Sophia have worked collaboratively to realise this vision, drawing together their diverse skill sets to create a progressive, sustainable company and a unique range of products.

What does GROUNDTRUTH mean?

What does it mean?

The origins of the word GROUNDTRUTH comes from being able to make informed decisions by direct observation and measurement (i.e. empirical evidence) as opposed to information provided by inference.
We have applied our investigative documentary filmmaking backgrounds to building every part of our ecosystem of suppliers and partners. GROUNDTRUTH is grounded in truth.

I have spent over 15 years making documentaries, capturing human stories from conflict affected communities across the world while witnessing first-hand the unfolding effects of climate change and plastic pollution. The stories I encountered and with the knowledge that climate change is going to become the driving force for people fleeing their homes, awakened a deep rooted desire to lead creating long term positive change. Our unconventional origins enables us to work outside the traditional boundaries of business and the fashion industry, and lay new foundations of a way of doing business that is naturally open and that places people and the planet central to our very core.

Growing up across Europe I was lucky enough to experience different cultures and environments, while being in nature was integral to our everyday. My research-driven approach and my experience working in the artisan textile industry, allows me to create cutting-edge sustainable products, avant-garde textiles, and forward-thinking new work practices—creating solid partnerships across our supply chain. I have developed strong bonds with our partners, especially our all female management team in Jakarta. I am driven by our strong design philosophy and inspired by our unique position in sustainability, and future technologies.

Originally from Syria, I have spent over 20 years working in finance and operations, within diverse industries; from manufacturing and construction to hospitality, and sustainable fashion. My passion lies in working and leading startups and small businesses, driving critical growth through an unwavering work ethic and dedication to detail. I pride myself on my solution-focussed approach, and am excited by the huge potential of the GROUNDTRUTH business in its product capability and storytelling capacity, to change the conversation around sustainability and a positive business revolution.

I am so inspired by my role at GROUNDTRUTH and the ethos of a business rooted in good. I have spent the past 20 years building global brands in marketing and sustainability roles at Allbirds, British Fashion Council, Diesel, PUMA and The Nice Co. Working in a female-led organisation at the epicentre of sustainability, adventure and filmmaking, allows us to tell powerful stories that can change customer thinking and create long-term global positive impact.

I am an experienced director, producer and cinematographer, and have worked extensively on international projects for the UN, PBS, CBC, The New York Times and Human Rights Watch. I co-founded GroundTruth Productions with Georgia in 2012, creating feature documentaries focusing on capturing human stories. I have an unwavering belief in the power of collaboration, dialogue and innovation to effect meaningful change, and focus on building strong relationships across industries.

SASHA FAIRHEAD

Brand Manager

Originally from Cape Town, over the past 5 years I have developed a multiskilled set working as a freelance filmmaker across Africa. I am an avid content creator, with a love for groundbreaking inspiration stories, centered around the need to protect our natural world. I have worked extensively as a producer, finding stories and organising shoots, and most recently worked with CNN and the Christiane Amanpour show.
